DIY backup of Facebook photos

Photographs are memories. Before the web they’d be secured in protective PHOTOALBUMS and PHOTOCASES. They were mostly safe, the typical risks being damage to damp, fire, or other rare occurrences. Now my photos are on Facebook. Rather than being locked away in an attic or on a book shelf, I can share them with friends, tag friends in them, and so on. Similarly, I’m tagged in friends' photos, which would otherwise be locked in their own homes. This is a big improvement, but now photos are susceptible to a different loss – not damp, fire, or insects, but the Facebook exodus. A friend delete their profile, and poof, all your photos from that birthday meal during college at the now-closed-down curryhouse have disappeared.

More and more people are leaving. Facebook exodus.
